Our conference will deal with the impact of information technologies on military and non-military security. We will consider the security status of the key systems controlled by smart algorithms. We will also present best practices in the use of smart systems for the protection of critical infrastructure and initiate a debate on the need for an integrated approach to emergency management in cities. We will demonstrate the effects and opportunities for cooperation between the industry and the research sector on the example of the PROTEUS project. We are organising the conference in close cooperation with the PIAP.

Emergency management exercises
The “Five Elements” conference continues the traditions of the “Freedom and Security” conference, which we co-hosted, with regard to the organisation of demonstrations and exercises in emergency management. The first such event took place in 2009, when we organised a demonstration of a joint operation by emergency management services in the Bay of Gdansk. This involved a simulated rescue of the vessel Zodiak of the Maritime Authority from terrorists. The operation was carried out by the Maritime Unit of the Border Guard, the Special Counterterrorism Unit of the Pomeranian Police, SAR units, units of the National Volunteer Water Rescue Service and medical emergency teams from Sopot and Gdansk, using ANAKONDA – a Navy helicopter and another helicopter of the Maritime Unit of the Border Guard.
In 2010 we ran a demonstration of the rescue from terrorists of the landing craft ORP Poznań docked opposite the Wały Chrobrego Promenade by the Special Counterterrorism Unit of the West-Pomeranian Police.
In 2011 we facilitated an exercise in the joint operation of emergency management services involving the evacuation of the Ergo Arena in Gdańsk by students and officers of the Naval Academy, emergency management services of the Pomeranian Voivodship Office, the Presidents of Gdansk and Sopot with the support of a Navy helicopter and another one of the Airborne Rescue Service.
A year later we held the first ever in Poland exercise in the protection of critical infrastructure against cyber attacks – Cyber EXE 2012 with the participation of the Government Centre for Security, MOD, National Police Headquarters, Military Institute of Technology, Wrocław Technical University, PSE-Operator, GAZ-SYSTEM S.A., RWE Polska and Orange Polska with the support of the National Security Bureau, the Foreign Ministry and the Euro-Atlantic Association.
